Topsy Turvy Review By A Tea Cup Chihuahua

Do you ever watch infomercials? We do. Our mom has this habit of waking up in the middle of the night, every night, and since all she wants it to go back to sleep, she turns on the TV and we watch infomercials. Once in a while, something catches her attention. This time it was the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter, a new way to grow mainly tomato plants in an unorthodox way, hanging them upside down.
We all went to the store, bought rich potting soil, the "ideal" tomato fertilizer, and two lovely baby tomato plants. Back home, we followed the instructions to the letter and within a few minutes, ta-da, our Topsy Turvy was ready. I could tell, Mommy couldn't wait.
Every day she would go to her seedlings and water them and check their growth. Finally, a few weeks later, there was a beautiful tomato bush sticking out of the bottom. Mom was thrilled. "I'm going to make the best tomato-mozzarella salads," she'd tell my human bro and sis. I don't care for tomatoes, but I do care about my mommy and I was just as excited as she was.
And then one fine day...
...need I say more, or can you see that Linguini (a dalmatian and german shorthaired pointer mix) is wearing the bush? Mom had tethered her while the cable guy was home. Perhaps Linguini felt like rebelling? BOL!
In case you were wondering, we got about 3 small tomatoes out of this experiment. Mom didn't even comment on the taste. Good job, Linguini, not!

  1. Hummmm I think Linguini should come visit me next spring when I start my garden up. We could discuss the importance of those delicate tomato thingys. hehehe
My mom has seen those thingys sold on QVC which is what she "watches" (sort of) sometimes. She wondered how they would work. I think I'll tell her to stick to the garden.

  2. Ah yes, I know the tomato bandits quite well. For 13 years, I could not grow a single tomato plant. Abby (the one before Sugar) loved to steal & bury the tomatoes, until they were nice and ripe for doggy consumption. I'll never forget the time I spent too many dollars on heirloom tomatoes for a dinner party. They were beautifully sliced, with chunks of fresh mozzarella and basil, soaking in pungent olive oil, on the dinner table. It was the last time I ever saw those tomatoes-- Abby managed to steal every slice and bury them in the back yard. She (kindly) left behind the cheese and herbs, for us humans...CL

  3. The rabbits usually come and steal our tomatoes, but now that we have Thunder, he will take care of the rabbits, but he might like the tomatoes too.

  5. Great feedback. My mom thanks you because she doesn't feel alone any longer in her failure to grow tomatoes. As for Khyra's comment, it made me have to grab my tummy with both hands, I was laughing so hard.

  6. Yeah, Master tried putting his tomato plants on my observation deck one year. He even put little cages around them, but I still managed to prune them to within an inch of their lives. Just what dogs do.
