Newborn Kittens | Day 2 and Bonus Kitten Video

As the cute and inventive and thoughtful cute kitten names keep pouring in, we're starting to have fun with the newborn kittens. They are more active by the minute, they make cute kitten noises, and they even have organized speed races on their tummies: The winner makes it all the way around their birthing box, a drawer.

Cute kitten names suggested yesterday:
Earl, Suzy Q, Sno Ball, Hoho, Ding Dong, Puddles, Duddles, Raindrop, Venezuela, Fifa, Pele, Beckham, Max, Lucy, Amigo, Khrya, Snookums, Patches, Cali, Rivers, Lakie, Speckles, Fawn, Holly, Dink, Rudy, Frankie, Brax, Bobo Jr., Little Jo, Peanut, Miss Kitty, Benny, Mona, Frankie, Albert, and Lorenza!!! As if the kittens' presence wasn't overwhelming enough, the kitten names you're coming up with are adorable. What to do?

Many of you, correctly assumed the calico kittens, aka tortoiseshell kittens, are most likely female. I'll get back to you on this one after I'm completed my research. In Greece, where my mom grew up, nobody wanted a calico kitty because they're considered . . . nuts! Silly greek old wives and their tales!

Me hopes you enjoyed today's newborn kitten edition.

  2. Hi AUNT Twinkie, hehehehe
See, I wasn't yankin' your walkin' about those calico cats all being Girrrls. The very very few "males" ever found are steril and have some "interesting INTERESTS", if you get my drift. This is what our furend told us. He was a VET for Years before he retired. He even taught VET School for Ohio State Univ..
I can't wait to see what you find out in Your Research.
Those kitties sure to move around a lot!!! Just imagine what it will be like when they can SEE and RUN!!
I am soooooooo glad that you finally got to taste the bestest treat of summer... well, next to Walllymelon, that is. Just be sure that you DO NOT eat any of the cob. OK??

  4. Too cute! Makes me think back to when we were bottle feeding Darwin and 3 of her siblings when they were 5 days old!
Are you having to do bottle feedings or is momma cat taking care of that?

  5. Ooooh, this is the coolest thing in the world. We get to watch little kittilets grow and get started in the world close up and personal. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Oh my, they are tooooo precious! The two 'tan' colored kitties are a very unique color, especially the tan and white! I'm obviously not a kitty expert, but will they stay that color, you think?!?!

Momma Kittie looks very proud...and she should be.

  7. Sigh. Baby kittehs. Sigh.

Oh, and I didn't mean Venezuela. I meant Vuvuzela (voo-voo-ze-luh)! You know those loud annoying horns they are blowing at that world cup thing? I dunno. That may be too hard.

Oh, and mom was thinking since momma kitteh's name is Farrah, you could name the others Charlie and Bosley and Sabrina and Kelly. You know - after Charlie's Angels!

Those kittehs are so little bity. I can't believes how small.
Now that one that took off...I was thinking you could name it Stop...hehehe. Then you could go around saying Stop! And then when hers is doing sumptin you'll be all like "come here Stop"... "Stop, you can have that catnip...hehehe... Just imagine, hers will be one confused kitteh.

  10. That brown and white kitty sure was getting around. They are all so cute.... Mom just LOVED the movie of them, especially the mews. She said momma cat looked sort of worried when her babies were being movie stars. That is the price when you live with the puparotzi...I have two at my house and they can drive me crazy.

  11. That spotted kitten is fast! Perhaps part greyhound, I think!

Mom said she thought white cats with calico patches could be either males or females, but the ones that are solid calico were always girls. She said it's been a very long time since she read that, though. She learned it because she had a little calico cat and her name was Friend.

Whatever you name theme, they're all cute as buttons! Maybe that fast one should be Zipper!

  12. Mom and I have one more name...the buff and white kitty needs to be named Scooter, or Hot Rod, what a mover and shaker he is. Too funny!!!

  13. Hi Twinkie! Wow, they are so cute! I love the little calicos and the buff and the buff and white and the black and white - oh they are all just adorable. And can I tell you that as someone who just had a crazy 10 (almost 11) week old calico racing past, yes they are crazy - but they are fun too! Her brothers and sisters may be a bit annoyed by it (other than her 11 week and 1 year old brothers) but I adore her! Because usually the crazy ones are also the sweethearts!

  14. hey Twinks -- just LOVE the little kitties -- my sister Coco told me all about when mum's cat Wussy had loads of kitties and she had to baby watch them!!!! My mum got two little kittes (about 6 weeks old) just over 2 yrs ago and boy do they STILL get into mischief!!!

    Keep up the good work!!!

  15. OMD! Those little baby kitties would be lots of fun to play with. They make cute squeaky sounds that make my ears stand up! We watch the big kitties here out our window but they look mean and grouchy. My mom used to foster orphan baby kitties so she loved seeing your video. She says she misses smooching on their little walnut heads.

  17. They are so cute. Those calicos ALMOST make me want to get a cat again. These are so brilliantly marked and will be gorgeous. We had a long haired calico with the dark colors like this many years ago when I was a kid. Her name was Queen Cat and she acted like it! Not a particularly good personality, but beautiful to look at! Grammy from Corgi Country ... I MISS MY GIMLI!!! He and Pip have to stay overnight at the vet! I've never had a male have to stay overnight before but THIS vet says she always does this... :(

  18. Kittens!!!! I can't believe you have adorable kittens!!!

You know you will want to keep them all! And before you name your sweet kitties, you MUST read the poem by T.S Eliot on that very subject:

  19. Hi Twinkerbelle!

They are darling little kits, no doubt about that.

The Tortoiseshells are just a little crazy but these have beautiful coloration. Did you know that Ali Z is called a muted tortie because she has all the tortie colors in soft pastel shades. In Britain they call them diluted torties. All goofy but lots of fun.

  28. My kitty sister Ellie is a tortie - here is some infos on them:
back in December of 2001 Texan A&M University cloned a Calico cat named Rainbow. Rainbow’s clone is named CC and is a genetic match to her, but doesn’t look like her. Calicos and tortoiseshell have the X-chromosome inactivation in the womb, and therefore the patterns that are caused by it are completely unique, not genetically inherited.

  29. Oh Twinkie...Mama wants us to tell you about her Addie cat who was a tortoise shell. We was the most loving kitteh to Mama...she had her issues, but Mama thinks that it was because she was taken from her Mama before she was ready...not because she was a tortie.

Oh boy....I think we may have to get Mama a kitty soon..she is leaking all over thinking of Addie.

  31. We have a calico kitty & a tortishell kitty both here & the vet said those two kinds are always girls.

My mom person loves the polka dot looking one laying across the back. Personally I am just glad not to have any more than 2 kitties here!

  32. Now, don't think our momma is weird or sumpthin' but when she saw those babies kittens the first thought that went through her mind was to suck their toes and suck their heads and stuff them under her chin. Hey, we're just sayin' - we gots a weird momma, that's all.
