Doxie N' Boots

This post is dedicated to my new friend, Tanya, the four-month-old piebald dachshund cutie  pie. Since we're at a horse show and surrounded by tall and dangerous riding boots, you get the boots too, in other words: doxie n' boots.

Why would this sweet girl need a forever home? Why did she join the rest of us rescue dogs? Because people breed more dogs than they should. It all comes down to the supply and demand theory. We've seen the pounds, we've seen the euthanasia rates, and we all know the truth. Please spay and neuter your pets.

Off to meet Tanya at the horse show grounds now. We're going to play like there's no tomorrow, since we're all going home later today.

  1. So cute! Are you showing in Vermont right now? Spaying and neutering is very important, but responsible breeding is also important. Just like why you would breed a show prospect for horse shows, there is still a demand for quality bred dogs to compete in various venues. I love rescues!

  5. Everyone here - all spayed & neutered! Mom & Dad said that dog breeding should be done by reputable breeders only.

Great pictures by the way. That Tanya is very cute :)

  6. Mom just went totally mushy over that puppy! What a doll! How anybody could not want her, we'll never know!

You are so right about spaying and neutering. We saw the most heartbreaking post about working in a shelter today on Facebook that everybody should read. There are just too many!

  7. My momma went and got me fixed when I was about 6 mo old. She said if I ever had any pups she would have a house full of full grown doxies.....I don't see why that is a problem myself. Anyway, Tanya is looking for a home? You know, there has been some talk around my house about getting another dog. Unfortunately, since I am having health trouble right now is not the right time. Give her some kisses from us.

  8. Tanya n'boots is a precious picture! She's such a cutie pie!

Spay and neuter is one part of the solution - the other is responsible OWNERS. When a dog is adopted, it's for that dog's life. Even if the dog gets sick, or too big, or has potty training issues, or the new spouse/baby/child/another dog doesn't mesh with the existing dog, or the dog gets old, owners are responsible for them. Dogs are not disposable, they are for life.

    Off my soap box...

  12. Tanya is a beauty...we only became familiar with the piebald Doxies about a year ago. They are so striking. Almost look like a Doxie and Beagle mix. We hope she finds a furever home soon.
