Easter Monday

The feasting continued from yesterday
Before

After

And after-er

I have never eaten more in my entire life. This surpassed even my Christmas feast! I can't wait until next year! I could barely eat my regular dog food. Ha haaa.
Along with the wonderful feasting, we got to visit with lots of family friends. They all love me and my sisters and we all got extra TLC. We were all giddy and overjoyed,  surrounded by family, friends, and M's peanuts.

This year marked another first for me. I have never received an Easter card before now, and look what I got in the mail!

My BFF, Frankie Furter sent me this one
I have never met a more noble guy
You're a good egg too, my furiend! Thank you.

They are all adorable, sweet, and funny
Gunther, my pug, and I are currently trying to see if we're a good match.
What do you think? I would like to meet him in person again before I make up my mind.
Thank you for this unique card.

The fabulous, the extraordinary, the loving furiends at Kissa-Bull sent me this collage
OMD aren't they adorable?
I have always thought so
Thank you my sweet furiends.

Greek Easter

Happy Easter everybody! I hope you are all having a wonderful time with your families, friends, and furiends. This year I decided to celebrate Greek Easter in honor of my mother and her family. It's my way of introducing you to some of the wonderful and rather yummy traditions. Greece is ten hours ahead of our time PDT.

We started the day by going to church
We were all quiet as we took in Sunday's sermon
The sermon
After a week of fasting, we were in a hurry to get back home so I could tend to the lamb I had started since 5 a.m. Our tummies were all growling. Being responsible for the lamb on the spit pauses a great degree of difficulty. How do I stop myself from nibbling?
As you can tell from my swollen cheeks, I didn't

Frankie and Linguini were in charge of the other traditional edibles
Linguini makes a mean tsoureki
(bonus recipe in the end)

Frankie makes the most pawesome easter cake
Oh, wait. She is the cake

The meal was exquisite
Afterwards, we kept up with the egg cracking tradition

The breaking of the eggs is meant to symbolize Christ breaking out of his tomb. We each grabbed a hard-boiled red egg and challenged the others to see whose egg would last the longest.  Usually, one person ends up with the winner, which means their egg is either intact or at least one end of it. In our case, we ended up with a boiled egg omelet. We got a bit carried away. We're also going to be eating egg salad sandwiches for a long time.

Greeks love to dance to celebrate life
We danced in order to digest our food
The more the merrier. We invited Jet to join us
Jet and I knew all the lyrics and sang along while dancing
Opa!

Linguini, she's over 21, decided to have some Retsina wine
Ya mas
Cheers! To all of you!

I hope you enjoyed a break from regular dog food and my abbreviated version of a Greek Orthodox Easter. As a matter of fact, feel free to consider this entire post as a giant dog treat. Now, for those of you who like to cook, I will share mommy's recipe for Greek New Year's Yeast Bread. She loves this recipe, so she uses that one instead of tsoureki. They're both pretty similar in taste and texture.

***Bonus Recipe***
New Year's Yeast Bread

Preparation time 3 hours
Baking time 30 minutes

Ingredients:
1lb strong or all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2oz fresh yeast or 2 tablespoons dry yeast
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon grated orange rind
1 tablespoon grated lemon rind
1/2 cup milk, scaled
3 eggs
1 egg yolk beater with 1 teaspoon water
optional decor: almond halves or sesame seeds

Sift the flour and salt. Dissolve the yeast in 4 tablespoons tepid water (100 degrees). Add 1-2 tablespoons flour mix and let it stand 10 minutes to rise. Melt the butter and heat until very hot. Put the sugar and flavorings in a kneading basin. Pour in the scalded milk and stir with a spoon. Break in the eggs and add the yeast. With your fingers, crush the yolks and combine the eggs with the other ingredients. Gradually add the flour and knead lightly. Add the hot butter and fold it into the dough. Avoid over-kneading. Traces of butter remaining in the dough will be absorbed during the rising. The dough should be warm, light, and buttery. Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place until it is three ties its previous bulk, 1.5-2 hours. Punch down the dough. Shape it into one large or several small round loaves. Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk, about 30 minutes. Brush the top(s) with the egg yolk mixture and decorate with the almond halves or sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Cool on a rack. To keep the bread moist, store covered with plastic wrap.
(Slurp)

May your Easter be filled with joy and of course yummy!

Saturday at the Movies

GLOBAL ANIMAL BLOGGING EVENT: Don't forget to visit the participating blogs. You get to make new furiends and be eligible for great prizes. We will be uploading new GABE posts until April 10th. Off to the movies now. Grab some pop corn, a nice heating pad, and join my canine pack and me, unless you have something better to do the day before Easter, of course. In which case, see you later.

We're waiting for the show to start

I'm not sure about this video. I thought there would be less action.

Can somebody fetch me my reading glasses?
Am I seeing things?

I'm giving it a paws-down.
The entire movie was upside down!

Tough audience to please. Maybe I should take them golfing. Frankie wants to be not like Tiger Woods when she grows up.

Have a great Saturday, furiends! And don't forget to check out all the bloggies and free giveaways!

Chiweenie Friday (12)

Hello, dear furiends! Frankie here.

I'm ba-ack, but first I need to say a couple of things about GABE. No, Twinkie's not making me this time. I just like it and hope I win one of the free giveaways.
Keep your posts and links coming up to the 10th of April. If you want to participate or even pawticipate, you need to email us your post's link at twinkietinydogATaolDOTcom. Twinkie's doing her best uploading the links as they come. If you don't see yours within 8 hours of sending it, try once more. Things constantly get lost in space. Speaking of getting lost, any time you feel lost about G.A.B.E., just click on our badge at the top of the sidebar. Business over. Tee-hee.

Time to talk about dog obedience training and school. I can't thank you enough about your encouraging comments from last week. They helpeded me so much that I relaxed and even did some soul searching. This is what I discovered.

The source of my fear
Trixie
Trixie's the one who's been attacking me every time I visit the barn. Trixie's a Chi-meanie and I'm not talking to her ever again.

A careful analysis of my young soul, as Twinkie puts it, made it clear that I am traumatized. I will not be this way forever though. Now that I know why I'm afraid of small black and white dogs, I can take control. I'm growing up fast after all.

Not so fast!

My classmates:
This is beautiful and sweet Roxie
I would love to play with her, but she reminds me of a certain Chi-meanie

Adorable, gentle Augie
He too reminds me of the Chi-meanie

Bright, well-trained handsome Mitch
He's a blue heeler, one of my favorite breeds
He's so well behaved, I shouldn't be afraid of him, but he's also much bigger than I am

Me
As you can see, I was so brave, I even switched chairs

I deserve a tiny drumroll for this next photo

Ta-da!
Now look who's being brave! It's me!

Mommy was so pleased with me. She kept huffing and puffing, but I could tell she was proud not so deep deep down.

I have to run now. I want to visit more Global Animal Blogging Event posts and find out about their free giveaways!!!

Global Animal Blogging Event

Due to unforeseen technical difficulties, this year's GABE has been cancelled.

BOL: April Fool's!

Welcome to my blog. My name is Twinkie and I will be your hostess today. I am part of a furry large household that most people refer to as "the shelter" since we're all rescues. I mostly blog about my family and the crazy things we get into. A large part of our activities take place at a horse barn I frequent with my two canine sissies to play with other rescues and the horses. I sometimes rate animal-related products that I review. My sister, Frankie, posts on Fridays about her life as a young puppy in training, and I'm starting a weekly advice column, titled "Dear Twinkie". I am also the organized/coordinator of this event.
If any of you don't see your link up within 24 hours of emailing it, shoot me! (an email)

Here's a photo of our canine pack:

Grab a coffee or some good quality kibble and have a look around my blog. The event was created for the purpose of meeting new friends and furiends and to form international relationships.

Remember that you can email me your GABE posts at twinkietinydogATaolDOTcom up to the 10th of April. I will keep updating the links as frequently as I possibly can.

About my free giveaways now. You know the rules, to be eligible to win you must leave ONE comment from which I can link back to you for your prize. I'm afraid one giveaway won't do it for me. Last time I participated in a similar event I got just over 150 comments, so I decided to give out more than one free giveaways, one every 50 comments. On April 18th, I will use random.org to pick the ... winners.

Free Giveaways

 #1
My children's read-along book out.
You can read more about my book HERE

#2
Premiere Twist and Treat Dog Toy

#3
And if I have more than 150 comments...I'll gladly give away more copies of my book because I'll be sooo happy the event went so well. I love getting free giveaways just as much as I like giving them.

Thank you all for participating. Let's have a great time and make this a memorable event, until next year!

What you're still here? Go on, visit our other participants by clicking on the GABE badge at the top of my sidebar!

Surprise Advice

I bet you've all received something in the mail that made your heart skip a beat. I get tons of mail like that. The other day I opened an email from somebody wanting to give me 5 million dollars! Another time, a lady who was old and had no family wanted to give me her estate. Wonderful strangers chose me to offer their drugs to. Heck, one time I even won the Australian International Sweepstakes.
Among those emails I received a note from Stella's World. At first, I though it was SPAM. I had been leaving notes for Ali Zophia all over blogland trying to get her attention. I was so impressed with her advice column that I was dreaming of having my own some day. So I kept teasing and commenting, and out of the blue, bam! Email from Ali Z, titled: Advice Column. Hmmm, interesting, I thought she was giving me personal-personal advice now and I was grateful. Imagine my shock when I read the line: "My Mom, Stella and I would be happy to give you my advice column." I almost fell off my desk (I don't use a chair). I just couldn't believe my eyes. I mean, I can believe I'll be getting a million pounds from London but THE advice column???

I quickly replied in case Ali Zophia changed her mind. She hasn't yet. Not only that but she and Stella posted the most hilarious conversation making it official! For the record, Ali Zophia was NOT fired. She has moved on to something TOP secret. I'm so excited to find out what is happening at their blog next. By the end of the post it was official: I, Twinkie Maria Conchita Espenoza Cucaracha Doodle-Bug Chupa Cabra Twinkerson, am honored to take over the famous Ali Zophia Advice Column. I will try my hardest to answer every-furiend's questions regardless of the perils I may be faced with in my quest for the correct response.

Please use my full name when leaving questions, I don't want to be confused with anybody else. Know that every question is important to me and that I will be recruiting the help of many critter-specialists to better serve you. So BRING IT ON! I have a hotline available to take questions 24/7. The number is 1-800-DEAR-TWINKIE

I thought the photo above would be appropriate as a header to the advice column. It summarizes what I stand for: a big mouth and an even bigger desire to laugh.

Ali Z! You are one cool kat! I will miss your column, but I am also looking forward to seeing what you and Stella have in store for us. Dear Abby, beware! Dear Twinkie's on the loose.
