I noticed that we have some bird lovers among us and a lot of you commented on the finches in my family video. I don't think I've told you, we have an aviary outside. It's awesome. We have finches and they make the cutest sounds--unlike them free parrots. As a bonus, many wild birds come to eat the bird seed that falls outside the cage and that keeps me and my sisters entertained. We do a lot of bird chasing in our own back yard.
This is a nest in our front yard. It's occupied every spring. Early reservation recommended.
To the back yard now and the aviary
Our finches
Mama and Papa, both finches guarding their nest
Baby finches, you can see the food in their gullets--the small sacs full of seed.
Same nest, different angle.
This is Junior, one of them, but we can't keep track so they're all named the same.
Junior stuck on floor of aviary. Uh-oh.
Don't worry, the parents are great flight instructors.
Another mama stands guard.
Aren't they adorable?
I sure hope at least my kat-furiends enjoyed today's post about our finches. Happy hunting!
But before you go...
Not for Mango's Eyes
My beloved furiend, Frankie Furter, the long haired doxie, is not just a really fun, funny, and good furiend, he's a thoughtful and considerate dude. He's putting together a massive THANK YOU to show our appreciation for Mango's amazing and involved work during Mango Minster 2010. THIS is my furiend's link where you can get the details in his own words. Twink!

Wow, we are impressed with your aviary - very nice. Mom had canaries years ago that mated and our human brother and sisters had a lot of fun watching the whole process from nestbuilding to eggs to fledglings to birdies. No birds here now so we will have fun watching yours.
Woos, Phantom and Thunder
The birds are so pretty.
You all are real troopers. I know how much cleanup duty goes along with having birds!
Hi Twink,
Thanks for sharing the pictures of your birdies. Our mom loves finches. She has an indoor aviary with different types of finches. She loves listening to them sing.

Bijou
We love all kinds of birds! Great pics. Thanks for sharing!
The last picture is fantastic. Is there somewhere you could submit it for a prize or calendar or something???
Twinkie you just crack me up. This is Junior, and this is Junior and.. over here we call this one Jr..
Sort of like My brother Daryl and my other brother Daryl... or... George Forman and his 87 kids named ... George.
Hey did you hear that the Houston Pittie Pack just got a new member?? I thought of you right away!!! He is a handsome guy!!
I just can't help myself. Love is in the air!!! I'm just sayin'.

We love your aviary, Twink! It must be wonderful to hear the happy tweets of the birdies every day!
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
What a nice aviary your mom has Twink. Finches are beautiful. We have some wild green finches around here. Actually, Morro Bay is considered a National Estuary so we have a LOT of birds.
So does your mom breed and sell the baby finches? How often do you guys have babies? It must be so fun to watch them.
Love, Stella
I learn something new about you every time I visit. Birdies are cute.
Okay that's just about the most awesomest thing I've seen. Before my Humans got me, Pops had some parakeets so he really loves birds too! Too bad they died before I could meet them. I think we'd be good friends!
Sonic
That aviary is so cool! Mom and Dad were talking about building a small one in the basement when they still had the cockatiel, but never got around to it.
Bunny
Twink,
SO many birdies!!!!!
Do they keep you up at night with their chirping?!
xo martine & the kiddlets
No Twinkie, this guy's name is Lucky and he is 1/2 ChiWaWa and 1/2 Dachshund. The best of both worlds. I didn't know you had a heart throb. I guess I'm not good at matchmaking. Maybe looking at your grrrreat finches made me think of love birds.
I'm just sooooo very much happy with my girrrls that I want everybuddy else to join in the good feelings. I won't mention that certain LARGE fella that you have your eye on. We'll just keep it between the two of us. I'm just sayin'.
OMD I am soooooo very much embarassed. You won't believe this one. I just found out that Lucky... is a girrrrl !! I guess I am sooo addlepated with all these thoughts of Ruby and Penny, that I can't even tell a squatter from a squirter. My bad.
Holy Heckel and Jeckel is that neat-o

Thank you for showing us your aviary Twink. Those finches are so small and cute. We were very impressed by their lovely big cage and natural nest boxes. There is nothing more sad than seeing birds crammed in tiny cages. Bet they are very entertaining to watch.
Wags and kisses, Dinah Bridget and Elliot xx
Twinkie...Madi here Mom told me to ask you to leave a light burning she is on the red eye heading out to see all your beautiful finches. Oh me love the red beaks. We had no idea you raise finches. BE sure to get a good picture of Mom with the birdies.
