Did Somebody Say "Dog Treats"?

Another crazy day at the horse barn with the rest of the rescue dogs had us all starving! Sure, we did find a hoof clipping to munch on, some even stole some food, but the rest of us were simply dying of hunger! One of the horseback riders, was kind enough to break out the bag of dog treats. Sure, these were no Himalayan Dog Chew treats, but I get those at home regularly.

We all gathered together, around the good samaritan, waiting for out dog treats.

Madi (left), the blue heeler, got a new hairdo. I think she looks funny. I think that she thinks she looks funny too. Since her new do, she's been hiding. With the "fun police" in hiding, the rest of us get to run wild!

Of course, nobody really hides when the treat bag is opened.
Check out the clingy doxie pups.

Here you can see Boomer, the chihuahua, having moved up to an advantageous position.

Holly, the other blue heeler (right) has boubled in size since her dog adoption a few short months ago. Her mom says she could gain more. I guess Holly doesn't have to worry about dog obesity like my brindle chiweenie sissy.

Hey, guys! Make some room.

Don't worry. My entire pack got lots of dog treats too. Everyone gets both tender loving care and tender loving treats at our horse barn. It's a dog utopia.

Chiweenie Exposé

I Can't Help It If The Chiweenie Provokes Me

Dear friends and furiends, my pack and I stand united because of a certain, ehem, pending cat-astrophe, and I've laid off my chiweenie sister for a while now. My intentions were noble, but the chiweenie is incorrigible, therefore, without apologies, allow me to demonstrate her latest shenanigans and the reason I can't stop making fun of her no matter how hard I try.

You probably know by now that our horse barn is a bit of an insane asylum.
Horses, humans, and an abundance of rescue dogs can't wait for their next horse barn visit.
It's no wonder this goat wanted to join us.

Nathan the horse was perplexed. Apparently, he did not grow up in a farm.
He did enjoy the entertainment though.

Heck! Almost all of us rescue dogs were entertained.

Even our senior dog set her dog arthritis aside for a few minutes and enjoyed playing the game: Get that goat!

Murray, the doxie, the latest dog adoption loved the goat game too.

I decided to join in.

Tigger, the other chiweenie, had a blast!

WARNING:
The following incriminating photos may be disturbing to our brindle chiweenie's fans.

Uh-oh

I think you get the picture.

I realize M has made a valiant effort to socialize our chiweenie. I saw the pictures and the certification and I know that our chiweenie is indeed a Canine Good Citizen. The ol' brindle has grown on me and I love her to pieces, BUT there's something seriously wrong with this dog! I believe a dog behaviorist is in order.

Dachshund Pictures | Rescue Dog Murray

Remember Dexter, the dachshund?
He was another of our horse barn's rescue dogs.

Detective Brindle Chiweenie is going to help us investigate.
Watch her sniff for clues.

OMD! It's a Dexter impostor!
No, wait. It's Dexter's new brother, a new among many rescue dogs.

Allow me to introduce you to Murray.
Welcome you lucky fellow.
You've no idea yet as to how awesome your new home is.

Lucky dog, Murray, has a fantastic forever home, with lots of furry siblings, dog food on his plate and frequent trips to our horse barn where he can get his exercise and a variety of dog treats including horse poo. He's going to need to work hard at this socialization skills though, as he's a bit of a biter. He's improving every day!

Dachshund Pictures | Piebald Dachshund

I have quite a fondness for doxies. In my opinion they are one of the most expressional and comical breeds. I'm acting tough, because I have the teacup chihuahua reputation to live up to, but I'm nuts over the miniature dachshund puppy, Tanya. She's only 2.5 months old, and I'm looking forward to watch her develop into a fine young lady. And without further ado . . .

Miniature piebald dachshund pictures! Because dachshund puppies are irresistible!

Beautiful Tanya

All puppies play hard until they can't keep their heads up

They fall asleep in all sorts of interesting positions

On a cold night, feel free to stick your miniature doxie in an equestrian helmet bag

The comedian

I hope you enjoyed today's edition of doxie cuteness. As for my sister, Frankie, the brindle chiweenie, she's "working" tonight. She's going to be assisting other doggies trying to get their AKC Canine Good Citizen certification. One of those puppies is Roxie, our brindle boston terrier friend. Good luck to the chiweenie and good luck to all the hopefuls. May you all grow up to become the best service dogs.

Clash of the Titans

Clash of the Titans
aka
Chiweenie v. Miniature Piebald Dachshund

Saddens me to have to admit, our chiweenie, Frankie, is afraid of the miniature dachshund puppy, Tanya, the latest of the barn's rescue dogs. Poor chiweenie! She's scarred and scared for life it seems. One day she's hiking with large dogs and yet the minute she is confronted by a small one, she tenses up. We'll make sure that she's introduced to many good natured dogs, like Tanya, the doxie, and hopefully she'll improve with time. If she doesn't after a few months, M is going to stop trying--there are limits to everything, and we love our Frankie too much.

Horse Show Dogs | Dog Costumes

The Santa Barbara National Horse Show is my favorite because I every year they hold dog contests. This year they had two categories: cutest dog and dog dress up. Our new furiend, Tanya, the miniature piebald dachshund, took part in the cutest dog contest and won third place. I think she should have gotten first, but that's how I am with my friends and loved ones. Obviously the Santa Barbara National Horse Show is an event that caters to horseback riders, but it's a known fact that horse people usually come with a dog or ten. They're all animal freaks, the kind we all like. Because the show goes on for five days and also because many great riders get to show, everyone's focus is on the horses and the dog show turns a bit . . . chaotic. Let me demonstrate.

The entrance to the dog show arena.
A bit of disarray, but fun to watch all those dog costumes together.

The dogs on the left look like italian greyhounds, but the purple doggie on the right is most likely one of those designer dogs--a new breed.

This is the closes this group came to being orderly.

But that didn't last long.

Ah-oh! Here comes the judge.
"Tanya! Turn around. Show the judge your cuteness."

Tanya had to be picked up to show her doxie cuteness, oh well, she still got THIRD place.
Congratulations, Tanya! What an honor for a miniature dachshund.

I did mention the contest was being held in Santa Barbara.
Our surfer dude here is practicing his trimming, but there's not much victory at sea.
Just don't wipe out, kook!

I don't really get this one, but I admit it's unique. Is that a hair net?

And my personal favorite dog dress up entrant.
Bam!

And the winner is . . . I'm just glad it wasn't a teacup chihuahua, look at the size of that wreath!

Crazy horse show people and their crazy dogs. We sure have a ball at these shows. Last year, after five days in Santa Barbara, I had had so much fun I went after five people!  Wha-at? They were in my face, plus this year, I got more respect.

Doxie N' Boots

This post is dedicated to my new friend, Tanya, the four-month-old piebald dachshund cutie  pie. Since we're at a horse show and surrounded by tall and dangerous riding boots, you get the boots too, in other words: doxie n' boots.

Why would this sweet girl need a forever home? Why did she join the rest of us rescue dogs? Because people breed more dogs than they should. It all comes down to the supply and demand theory. We've seen the pounds, we've seen the euthanasia rates, and we all know the truth. Please spay and neuter your pets.

Dachshund pictures of  Tanya n' boots:

Off to meet Tanya at the horse show grounds now. We're going to play like there's no tomorrow, since we're all going home later today.

Horse Barn Prisoners

At our horse barn, we take in rescue dogs and then we . . . imprison them! Okay, maybe not exactly like that. We do on occasion place an unruly pack behind bars though. An unruly pack is a group of dogs that is not horse savvy and may endanger themselves, the horseback rider's safety, and even the horse's soundness. The doxie-pack would like to demonstrate using, for the most part, dachshund pictures.

Funny, but if you think about it, these guys are all doxies except for the gremlin look-alike on the far left. We don't know what creature that is.

"Ugh, not the horse stall again!"

"Can we at least have some dog treats?"

"As soon as our mommy is done with her horseback riding lessons, we'll be free again, and then we'll show all of you who teased us!"

"I'm a teacup chihuahua and I'm not being taken as a prisoner. Not now, not ever."

A few short days later, the prisoners were released and got their dog treats and some carrots.

A Day In The Life Of A Chiweenie

My name is Frankie and I'm a chiweenie. I am an AKC Canine Good Citizen brindle chiweenie and I'm only a puppy. I am a rescue dog, a puppy mill reject, and I now have a forever home and lots of furry siblings. This is how I like to spend my day. . .

I'm not an early riser
I like to stay in my warm bed for as long as possible
Since I'm not fully potty trained  yet, sometimes I even pee near where I sleep so that I can crawl back under the warm comfortable covers

I love dog chews, don't we all?
That dog treat is looking at me

I love to chew on juicy bones, yum!

Dog treats are my favorite, after human treats

Speaking of human treats, I love whipped cream!

I also love to play
This is me playing with Dexter the doxie

I am pretty athletic and love to ride horses and I take regular horseback riding lessons

Now, I need to go back to doing what I do best
Zzz

That's the life!

Dachshund Pictures | P.T. Goes To China

Another glorious day at the horse barn with my rescue dog pals and the horses...Aaah, that's the life. This particular outing, I was rather taken by my friend, P.T.'s digging attempts. Let me share my dachshund pictures with you.

Doxie working hard
What's that red stuff off to the side?

And digging

A doxie's dedication
More red stuff, hmm

The red blur was P.T.'s brother, Nathan the horse

Special guest appearance by Dexter the doxie
supervising his lil' bro

P.T. unperturbed continues with his digging expedition and hopes to reach China sometime soon

Making progress at last!

Welcome back to the United States of America
Passport, license, and registration please

The sad part was that P.T. needed and got a bath after this photo sequence. It's a shame that he didn't learn anything from his brother's dog training tips
