Horse Show Prisoners

Check out these losers.

All these rescue dogs piled together behind bars.
You can see Holly, the blue heeler, Trixie, the black and white chihuahua (a.k.a the chimeanie), Boomer, the other chihuahua, and Tigger, the chiweenie

Tigger is the sweetest of the bunch. I have petitioned for his release.

This one, you can keep behind bars.
Please don't forget to throw away the key.

Those poor losers. I would never . . .

Huh?

The End

Horse Show Dogs | Dog Costumes

The Santa Barbara National Horse Show is my favorite because I every year they hold dog contests. This year they had two categories: cutest dog and dog dress up. Our new furiend, Tanya, the miniature piebald dachshund, took part in the cutest dog contest and won third place. I think she should have gotten first, but that's how I am with my friends and loved ones. Obviously the Santa Barbara National Horse Show is an event that caters to horseback riders, but it's a known fact that horse people usually come with a dog or ten. They're all animal freaks, the kind we all like. Because the show goes on for five days and also because many great riders get to show, everyone's focus is on the horses and the dog show turns a bit . . . chaotic. Let me demonstrate.

The entrance to the dog show arena.
A bit of disarray, but fun to watch all those dog costumes together.

The dogs on the left look like italian greyhounds, but the purple doggie on the right is most likely one of those designer dogs--a new breed.

This is the closes this group came to being orderly.

But that didn't last long.

Ah-oh! Here comes the judge.
"Tanya! Turn around. Show the judge your cuteness."

Tanya had to be picked up to show her doxie cuteness, oh well, she still got THIRD place.
Congratulations, Tanya! What an honor for a miniature dachshund.

I did mention the contest was being held in Santa Barbara.
Our surfer dude here is practicing his trimming, but there's not much victory at sea.
Just don't wipe out, kook!

I don't really get this one, but I admit it's unique. Is that a hair net?

And my personal favorite dog dress up entrant.
Bam!

And the winner is . . . I'm just glad it wasn't a teacup chihuahua, look at the size of that wreath!

Crazy horse show people and their crazy dogs. We sure have a ball at these shows. Last year, after five days in Santa Barbara, I had had so much fun I went after five people!  Wha-at? They were in my face, plus this year, I got more respect.

Santa Barbara National Horse Show

We didn't do too poorly at the show. Human sister made us proud and so did the rest of our barn. I though it most fitting for the chiweenie and me to do the presentation. More Santa Barbara National Horse Show pictures and information coming your way soon. They even had a division labeled: horse show dogs! I got to see a bunch of dogs in funny costumes too, it was a dog dress up contest. I laughed my head off, but . . . I'll tell you more about it later, along with photos of the dog costumes.

Proud to be horse show dogs!

Doxie N' Boots

This post is dedicated to my new friend, Tanya, the four-month-old piebald dachshund cutie  pie. Since we're at a horse show and surrounded by tall and dangerous riding boots, you get the boots too, in other words: doxie n' boots.

Why would this sweet girl need a forever home? Why did she join the rest of us rescue dogs? Because people breed more dogs than they should. It all comes down to the supply and demand theory. We've seen the pounds, we've seen the euthanasia rates, and we all know the truth. Please spay and neuter your pets.

Dachshund pictures of  Tanya n' boots:

Off to meet Tanya at the horse show grounds now. We're going to play like there's no tomorrow, since we're all going home later today.

Please Do Not Disturb

I am staying at a 10 star hotel in Santa Barbara, in between commuting to Los Angeles and going to the horse show, and I need my beauty sleep.

You may however be interested to know that we have a new barn rescue! Yay, for rescue dogs! Tanya in the photo above is four months old and she's awesome.

The prisoners are right where they belong

The chiweenie is as freaked out as always, especially since she doesn't know whether Tanya wants to eat her.

As I was saying. . .

Horse Show And Tons of Dog Treats

I'm one lucky teacup chihuahua. I am part of a furry large active family. We went to yet another horse show this weekend. We left behind the newborn kittens and the new outdoor cat enclosure and off we went.

We met this beautiful new rescue dog, an Akita mix
As soon as the heelers assured me she was safe, I approached to greet her

Frankie was hanging with the horses

We discovered some colossal tunnels to play in

I love to run free and explore the universe

My friend, the chiweenie, Tigger, found a hoof to chew on
Horse hoof trimmings make the yummiest dog treats
One must be careful though because a large dog may choke on those whereas a small may get an obstruction

Finally, a human dog treat bearer!
Both the chiweenie and the chihuahua started to beg
Tsk tsk

While my chiweenie sis and I waited stoically

The blue heeler, Holly, got some too

My favorite shot of the day
MarroBone dog treats are not to be confused with the marrow bone dog chews I've been talking about

And the feast went on for a while

My chiweenie sissy got pooped and had to take a break

It was really hot, so we all got plenty of fresh water to drink

Just as I was playing chihuawars with my sissy, the blue heeler decided to interrupt
"Go away, Holly, or I'll bite you too. I'm not kidding around."

I was so upset after that, so I got into the horse trailer and . . .

. . . gave her a pees of my mind

My new fried really enjoyed herself too

Before parting with my friends, we got . . . human treats
They call them Subway

Subways are the best!

I'm afraid the chiweenie got too full in the end

What a great day at the horse barn. I got to play with horses, watch my human sissy compete in the horse show, eat a bunch of yummy treats, and played off leash with my friends. I can't wait until the next time.

Extra Extra, Read All About It

Starting June 26th, 2010, all horse shows will require the presence of a canine companion at the gate. There will be no announcers without a dog. The new prerequisite for the announcers will be strictly enforced, and any booths found without dog treats will be yellow taped on the spot. For those overwrought by the new legislation, tough!

In addition, owners of teacup chihuahua dogs are urged to consider bringing a minimum of three at each horse show.

Thank you for your understanding.

Horse Show Time

Life is a basket of kittens lately, so I was relieved when I heard that we were going to a horse show. I also hadn't seen my barn friends in ages.

I received the most warm welcome, that included a belly rub

The crazy chiweenie shared carrots with the fun police, the blue heeler, Madi

The chimeanie, Trixie was there too

Frankie had to remain alert after the last chimeanie attack.
"Mommy!"

Holly, the blue heeler, wanted to play ball, by herself!

I stayed close to M, after our last dog hiking adventure.
In this photo, I'm on M's lap biting my sissy's paw

Out of the blue, this large gift basket appeared and guess what!
It was full of dog treats and toys! Some of the treats were even homemade dog treats! Yum!

We all got some, although I must say, I was embarrassed by the chiweenie's manners

My main job for the day was to guard the food with my life

I am good at my job

At the end of the horse show, I was rather fatigued. As for the chiweenie, she passed out again.

I wish every day was horse barn day!
