Our Next Pet Photo Contest

The Show Us Your Tongue pet photo contest was so much fun for everyone involved that I had an "aha" moment. The way to go is... various body parts. I am now thinking that the theme for my next pet photo contest will be: EARS

As I am currently recovering from Show Us Your Tongue, while I catch up on my work and chores, I'm brainstorming. Ears, bellies, be-hinds? I'm going to test them all, starting with the ears.

I have invited a few furiends to help me with my assessment.

First, we have the love goat demonstrating extreme ear action.

The chiweenie is doing a helicopter ear demonstration

The horse is demoing shaking ears

And, I, the teacup chihuahua, am doing a public demonstration of the boo-boo ear.

I wonder how this will go down in the animal blog-dom. Let's all catch our breaths and decide later as to the potential of such a theme for a pet photo contest.

Have a lovely week!

Pet Photo Contest Going Stronger

National Dog Week | Day 5

I was thinking that this year we should extend National Dog Week and have it last a month, but my petition did not have sufficient grounds. No worries, I'll start working on it for next year.

SHOW US YOUR TONGUE

The entries keep coming in. So many beautiful, quirky, twisty, pink, purple, long, short, round . . . tongues in animal blog-land! I'm stunned. Needless to say, my quirky mom is thrilled! She's not complained once for having to stay up with me to go over the entries. We're both grateful for the enthusiasm and support of my good ol' blog furiends and the new ones I meet along the way. I am also extra excited because I'm getting a preview of the next G.A.B.E (Global Animal Blogging Event). It's going to rock the animal blog-dom big time!

I will stop accepting entries for the Pet Photo Contest at midnight, this coming Saturday. I am frantically going over photos and blog posts and emails therefore, I will let you know in the next couple of days when they'll all be up for your viewing and voting pleasure. I'm aiming for this Sunday. Please stay tuned. Like I've said before, I thought this was going to be a mini contest. BOL the joke's on me!

Today, I would like to use some photos to encourage your efforts:

Synchronized SHOW US YOUR TONGUE

If this ain't a tongue shot!
(photo courtesy of my senior dalmatian sister, Linguini)
I can feel the passion.

Markus the horse
He can do this for hours!
He's also a superb athlete. Lucky for you, he will not partake in our pet photo contest.

Last, but, by no means, least . . . I present you
Me!
Twinkie, the tiny teacup chihuahua

The last shot has educational purposes. It's for those parents who were unable to get a tongue shot. I suggested peanut butter, and whipped cream, but there's always an alternative. Use your imagination humans!

Off to enjoy the lovely photo entries and start putting them in order. Have a fabulous rest of our National Dog Week!

Horse Show And Tons of Dog Treats

I'm one lucky teacup chihuahua. I am part of a furry large active family. We went to yet another horse show this weekend. We left behind the newborn kittens and the new outdoor cat enclosure and off we went.

We met this beautiful new rescue dog, an Akita mix
As soon as the heelers assured me she was safe, I approached to greet her

Frankie was hanging with the horses

We discovered some colossal tunnels to play in

I love to run free and explore the universe

My friend, the chiweenie, Tigger, found a hoof to chew on
Horse hoof trimmings make the yummiest dog treats
One must be careful though because a large dog may choke on those whereas a small may get an obstruction

Finally, a human dog treat bearer!
Both the chiweenie and the chihuahua started to beg
Tsk tsk

While my chiweenie sis and I waited stoically

The blue heeler, Holly, got some too

My favorite shot of the day
MarroBone dog treats are not to be confused with the marrow bone dog chews I've been talking about

And the feast went on for a while

My chiweenie sissy got pooped and had to take a break

It was really hot, so we all got plenty of fresh water to drink

Just as I was playing chihuawars with my sissy, the blue heeler decided to interrupt
"Go away, Holly, or I'll bite you too. I'm not kidding around."

I was so upset after that, so I got into the horse trailer and . . .

. . . gave her a pees of my mind

My new fried really enjoyed herself too

Before parting with my friends, we got . . . human treats
They call them Subway

Subways are the best!

I'm afraid the chiweenie got too full in the end

What a great day at the horse barn. I got to play with horses, watch my human sissy compete in the horse show, eat a bunch of yummy treats, and played off leash with my friends. I can't wait until the next time.

Dachshund Pictures | P.T. Goes To China

Another glorious day at the horse barn with my rescue dog pals and the horses...Aaah, that's the life. This particular outing, I was rather taken by my friend, P.T.'s digging attempts. Let me share my dachshund pictures with you.

Doxie working hard
What's that red stuff off to the side?

And digging

A doxie's dedication
More red stuff, hmm

The red blur was P.T.'s brother, Nathan the horse

Special guest appearance by Dexter the doxie
supervising his lil' bro

P.T. unperturbed continues with his digging expedition and hopes to reach China sometime soon

Making progress at last!

Welcome back to the United States of America
Passport, license, and registration please

The sad part was that P.T. needed and got a bath after this photo sequence. It's a shame that he didn't learn anything from his brother's dog training tips

Dachshund Pictures | Dog Training Tips

It's obvious that my family and I are crazy about Dexter the doxie and we can't get enough. Today, I want to post his sweet dachshund pictures demonstrating step by step how he spends his day at the horse barn.

He enjoys grazing with his horse and his doxie brother, PT

He supervises PT's expeditions to China

He's always on the alert and watches over his horse
or under in this case

He's big on sunbathing, but I don't know why
He's already tan

He takes time to stop and smell the rails

He hangs out with the horse barn's brat pack
All rescue dogs
[Two dachshund puppies and a gremlin/chihuahua mix]

He sunbathes some more

And here are Dexter's dog training tips
Dog training tip 1: play dead possum and lie still

Dog training tip 2: wait for the barn socks

Ta-da! What do you know? Once more Dexter the doxie was airlifted to his limo. I would try it myself if I dared. With M being so forgetful though, it's a risk. Feel free to try it and give us your feedback.

Dexter pictures over
(for now)

It's a rescue dog's life, but somebody's got to live it. Happy Mother's Day!

Rescue Dogs Eating Yummy Dog Treats

We couldn't stay in any longer. We were all feeling beat up by the recent events. M decided to leave the dog tumors behind for a few hours. We would be better off having an outing. She didn't want to strain Linguini by hiking, so she opted for our beloved horse barn. M figured she could always use a (shhh) leash on Linguini if she got too active. Don't worry, Linguini wasn't in the mood to hop around, but she sure cheered up just being there.

As soon as we got to the horse barn, we discovered that the other rescue dogs, our friends, were busy trying to steal their momma's lunch. These guys are on the road so much that they're used to this type of food. I know, some of you think we should only eat kibble, but I am so grateful for the rescues this lady is responsible for, I refuse to pass any judgment. Besides, her pack eats kibble regularly, they're just a bit spoiled and get to eat human treats as well--as does my pack, by the way.

Only problem was... Trixie, the chimeanie, was really hungry
Step aside or she'll eat you

What kind of dog treat do we have here?
A healthy salad!
Oh, and the happy propeller ears belong to Tigger, the other chiweenie
Boomer, the chihuahua, is momma's boy and he gets to go first

I guess Trixie's on a hi-fat diet, so poor Tigger can have some lettuce

On the left, you see Holly, the blue heeler
She gets to clean up
I, Twinkie Twinkerson, the tea cup chihuahua, am not crazy
I love a good dog treat but I don't want to risk my life

Trixie was baring her teeth again
But I stood my ground

I went over to the chiweenie and supervised her having her dog chews, horse hooves
Those are our favorite barn treats, along with juicy carrots

Inside the barn isle, I discovered this mess
There was a dog treat line
All rescue dogs, designer dogs (aka mutts) and "pure bred" dogs too, were eagerly awaiting something to put in their tummies
M took lots of dachshund pictures since they were so liked, but I'll post them separately
What the hay? Where was my treat?

Oh, finally

Whatcha looking at?
You've never seen a tea cup chihuahua enjoy a dog treat before?

After our feast, Frankie and Dexter, the doxie, tried to drink some of the fresh water dripping out of that pipe

Dexter finally gave in and went for the water bowl

Linguini actually jumped in the car, when we were ready to head home. M squealed because that means that the Rimadyl is working and her girl is feeling better.
Doesn't our girl look happy? Huh?
Whoever said anything about geriatric dogs? She looks like a pup to us.

After this invigorating outing, we drove home, had some kibble, and then we all crashed
You can put away the camera now, mommy
You already took 500 photos today

I heard something about going to the horse barn tomorrow again. I'm crossing my paws!
