Bobcat Sighting | Bed Tracks

Hello, lovely furiends! Frankie here. I had a terribly scary experience I must share with you. I could also use the help of KB and The Thundering Herd (both teams please, even Rusty the Rooster).

You may or may not know that I live right by Angeles National Crest Forest where the terrible Station Fire burned down most of the surrounding forrest. What that means is: A. We're lucky we still have a home to live in after the last fires B. We're lucky to have a home to swim in, after the floods, C. Our lives, especially Twinkie's and mine are in constant danger! True that. We have to share our land with all kinds of crazy and nasty predators. The other day--this was in the news--a neighbor watched as a mountain lion jumped over his six foot fence with his beloved dog in his mouth. (Note to self: Another furiend to meet up with at the bridge.) The actual story can be found here.

This photo was taken from our main entry:
Bobcat, not to be confused with my bro, Bob The Cat

Where was I? Oh, yes. So, we all have to be very careful.

KB, Herd, this is where I need you. I took photos of some tracks that must most likely definitely probably are bobcat tracks!
The TRACKS!!!

Before my postie, I did some research. Here's what I think. The tracks are muddy, therefore the beast came directly from outdoors. There are no claw prints, therefore the beast had visited a nail salon prior to his/her visit. The overall shape of the tracks is round,  common to most felines. The toes are offset, and I can tell they were very furry in between them, which means the nail salon sucked. Finally, I have come to the conclusion that my M will be very angry when she discovers the culprit. Bobcat beware, this was a silly move on your part.

I could use any advice and tips you can offer me. I need to hold the fort down just a bit longer until Twinkie returns from là-bas.

Thank you so much!
Frankie

Oh my goodness, Frankie! I was all skeered reading your post. We've seen coyotes around our place and those are scary enough! I can't imagine a big ol' kitteh trying to break in. I don't have any advices but make sure you and Twinkie stick real close to Linguini or your M.

Oh gosh! Please be on the watch out for that big kitty. We loves wildlife but, the last thing we want is for you or Twink to become kitty food! I'd say stay close to home, but that doesn't seem to be too safe either. Take care!

OMD!! A bobcat?!? My mom freaked out because she saw a huge hawk circling our yard last week, she thought I might look like a bunny rabbit to the hungry bird!! As if it could pick up almost 27 lbs - what did she think it was, a pterodactyl?? But a bobcat is a whole nother story!! Maybe you should wear chain mail when you go out to do your business!! Be careful pal, OK??

Oh wow, your mom has to be so careful with you guys 24/7! That would send goosebumps up my arms seeing that bobcat run in front of the house.

We have very large predatory birds around here. One night while I was out watching Stella and El Guapo do their nightly business, a huge Great Horned Owl swooped down into the yard. I have no doubt it would have tried to pick one of them up if I hadn't stood up and scared it away.

It's always better to be overly safe. I don't even let these guys out in the yard alone during the day when I'm not home.

Oh dear Frankie - please do stay safe - it is too bad that the wildlife and the domestic have to deal with these problems. We just want you all to stay safe.

Holy crap Frankie, watch out! We have coyotes here that eat little dogs such as yourself. No place is safe! Also those birds that pray. Do be mindful when you go out and mom should be careful too.

Frankie, you need to be super careful out there or you will be kitty treats.. Maybe you need to invite Mango over while Twinkie is away. He is pretty big he could frighten that kitty away...
Oh Frankie, Callie and Louie are deaf. Callie loves herding the sheep and she actually is quite good at it. The trainer is amazed by her natural instincts. She is always saying, if only she could hear.. Louie on the other hand like we said loves to just scatter them. Hey Mom says he is having fun so that is all that matters..
Now you be really careful out there..

I agree - either those tracks are from a dog who went to a lousy nail salon or they're from a bobcat. But, Rusty knows more than I do about these things.

You need to be very very careful. You look big enough, Frankie, that you'd probably be OK around a bobcat. But, Twinkie wouldn't.

Worse yet, neither of you would be OK with a lion. If that's been happening within 10 miles of your house, I'd be very careful. We don't have a fenced yard for our dogs because of lions stealing dogs, on occasion, in our area. And, our dogs aren't even allowed on our 15' high deck by themselves for the same reason.

Be Careful!!!!!

Omidog! Be very careful you little guys! That is such a scary story.

That's pretty scary stuff! We've had similar stories in our area of coyotes making a meal out of small pets.

Wish I knew the answer of how to balance the delicate wildlife-domestic animal situation and keeping everyone safe!

Wow, what an exciting place you live in - with such dangerous animals around.

Take good care of yourself ...

Holy cow! That kitty carried off a 65lb dog!!! At first I assumed it must have been a lil doggie but wow! Scary! You pups be safe! I thought we had some surprising wildlife with the peacock (who was back yesterday) but don't think the peacock is a danger (except to my flowers).
I hope you don't get blamed for what that bobcat did.

We've seen a bobcat on the hill in front of us (about a city block away) which is why we have 8 ft. fences and a hotwire (electrified wire on our fence.

Grammy wouldn't let us out until we were over 14 lbs. because of the big owls, too, and we've heard of mt. lions in the area. Country living is beautiful but can be dangerous. Be careful, Little Man, and fill Twink in as soon as she gets home!
