Dog Training tips - Not for the Dog Whisperer

I was reading on Cesar's Way today an article about dog training and obedience. The title was "Will Beg for Food," and I got to thinking, I can't live like that! The article clearly states the following "rules": Do not give food, ignore, don't feel sorry for your dog, and, to make matter worse, be consistent. Yikes! I know M watches the Dog Whisperer's television show, because we all watch it together, but luckily when it comes to raising us, M listens to dog advice but in the end she just follows her instinct.

Exhibit A:
Notice the drool dangling from the corner of my sissy's mouth?
Why prolong the torture?

What did Cesar Milan mean, but saying Do Not Give Food? Did you guys notice our wide eyes, our pleasure and anticipation? What kind of dog training is that? I beg to differ.

Exhibit B:
Add to the equation our soft pink curled tongues and intensity.

Milan's article tells humans to Ignore. If that's dog training, I want to have none of it. I prefer people training and I believe I am good at it.

Exhibit C:
Ignore this, if you can!

As for the idea of Not Feeling Sorry For Your Dog, another silly dog training tip, I disagree with that strongly. No matter how well-fed we are, and we are thanks to our rescuers and dotting parents, we can always eat more, especially if it comes from the table. Scraps off the table is what Linguini and I live for--Frankie's still learning.

But she's a fast learner!

Dog training tips can be dangerous for us. We need to unite our forces and protest. No more living by the book. Human training is much more fun and relaxing and we have proved it with our blogs. Let's continue on with our tradition and let Mr Milan convert the others. Dog training my... Milan!

Oh my word, that is some serious drool. I have been known to leak about the mouth when Mom has an ice cream stick, because she lets me lick off the "rest" when she is done. Dad will give me a peanut sometimes, so I believe I have them both trained pretty good. You have a very curly pink tongue Twink, and serious givemesome eyes.

Don't feel sorry for your dog? That Caesar Salad Man is clearly INSANE!
As a Pug, I've grown very proud of my "extreme sad face" that I've perfected over the last 3 years and I certainly am not going to allow this crazed Salad Man to cock it all up for me now! I think I'm going to have to email the cable people and see if they can get rid of Animal Planet so Mom doesn't get wind of this fool!

Thanks for the heads up!

Love,
S-Dog

The Momster has been trying for years to train the Dadster to stop feeding us from the table. She doesn't mind if we get some tidbits after the meal is done, but NOT while the family is at the table. But she hasn't succeeded yet - YAY!!!

BOL! Mom always accused me of "not having read the manual" when I was a puppy. I guess I'll just keep it up.

Even before watching the milan guy...Momma has always been made of stone. Yea she does offer us pizza crust...but thats it. But thankfully Grandma lives with us and we have her FULLY trained. We agree what does he know...has he ever watched someone eat and not drooled over it.

How Beth feels about this training thing is that each dog is different like each child is....get to know your dog and do what works best....everyone will be much more happy! And that is what life is all about!

Don't know about the Dog Whisperer and his trainings. Our humans do give us their food. We don't get ignore when we "ask" for food and we don't think we are spoilt because of that!

ACK! You mean peoples are actually WATCHING this human? Twink! Perhaps there needs to be an undercover, super-double-top-secret operation to scrambles up the tv receptions for that channel. I mean, I just got my parents all good and trained like I want 'em. What if - horror of horrors - they see this show? That's just too much horribleness to think about all at one time!

Okay, I thinks I'm hyperventilating and when I hyperventilates I get hungry. Better go get mom to gets me a cookie.

I do believe in having a well-behaved dog, but I also believe that sometimes dogs just need to be dogs!

And with regards to the well-behaved dogs, I would like to have one one day :)

I have my own system. I make them beg me to take their food. It helps that I have a moderate appetite and I'm kind of picky. So, I don't eat what they give me for a day or so and before you know it they'll give me ANYTHING. Works very well.

Now maybe all these dogs don't like it but I certainly love being able to leave my half-eaten plate of food on the couch next to Rugby while I get something from the other room and still have all my food on my plate when I get back! :p

My Mom would never ignores me, nor would I let her BOL She gives me people food sometimes but she doesnt let me beg while they are eatting. She says that are BAD manners!! As long as she doesnt forget me, I feel that is a good compromise. She likes to share with me.

Grammy LOVES the Dog Whisperer, but she still tends to spoil us some. We know when she means business and don't go past the limits, but she says she just figures we are trying to help her with HER diet which she calls the "Six Corgi and a Border Collie Diet." Actually, for Grandma OC's sake, she has been trying to be careful not to give HER to much, but THAT is really hard for her because Grandma's got the most beautiful eyes and has had over a decade of training Grammy to "Look into my eyes..."
