Guilty Or Not Guilty

Haven't you ever thrown a party that left you with food you had to get rid of? For us it's usually the cake. We're not big on sweets, plus this one was a chocolate cake which meant that we, the dogs, couldn't even have a taste--not that we didn't want one.

I asked the chiweenie to give me a lift up to the trash compactor, but she was squirming too much and I was sliding on her brindle furs. Linguini, our spotted senior dog and expert counter surfer, didn't face any such difficulty. Her trouble developed after she was discovered.

The trash compactor

"It wasn't me.
I believe it was the kittens."

I ask that you examine our senior dog's nose paint and body posture and tell us your honest opinion.

For the record, Linguini wasn't affected by the chocolate. She didn't get sick, there wasn't any dog diarrhea, heck, we watched her like hawks and she didn't even burp. No emergency dog vet visit this time.

We believe, from the evidence presented, that Linguini is.....guilty! (Good try Linguini in trying to pin it on the kittens, BOL!)

Totally not Linguini's fault! Obviously the kitten's ate the cake and then while Linguini was sleeping put the icing on the nose... and we would even go so far as to say that it was the kitten named PUDDLES that did it!

Linguini is innocent of all charges!

Well I'm just glad Linguini didn't get an upset stomach. Besides, everyone knows it was Professor Plum with the wrench in the library! :)

You look like mom when she denies stealing the chocolate and its on her face.

Linguini, Lilac once ate three bags of chocolate Easter candy and barely had a tummy rumble! I'm not convinced that it's not a story the humans tell to keep the chocolate to themselves!

Oh my, those naughty naughty kittens...now that they know they get to stay home, all kinds of mischif will be breaking out. One of you little girls "could have" licked off the incriminating evidence :)

Yep it is just too tempting. It is good it was just a cake because the bad part of chocolate is probably less in a cake then in an actual chocolate bar - we are glad there was no illness from it this time!!

Linguini, I pawsonally think a tree rat smeared your nose with Fake Evidence while you were napping. that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Of course it was the kittens, duh! They have set up the poor vulnerable senior dog to help them steal the treasures without suspicion.

Nommy cake Linguini?

Hmmm.... I believe you did it... and it was delicious, right?
Next time... make sure to clean your nose... and nobody will know it was you!
Glad you did not get sick!

I think Linguini can plead temporary insanity. Once she smelled that she probably lost her grip on the difference between right and wrong and couldn't help herself. Also, it's lucky she didn't get sick because she could probably sue on the basis that the garbage was an "attractive nuisance". Yeah, we dogs know our rights these days. However, Blog Mom says that she's so old she remembers when it wasn't really common knowledge that dogs shouldn't have chocolate. Although she would never, ever give a dog chocolate anything now, nothing much ever happened to any of the dogs that she knew that got a bit of cake or some chocolate ice cream. That includes the Weimeraner she had something like 40 years ago that got hold of a boxed chocolate cake and ate the whole thing, and the box and the foil tray that it came in. Franklin and I, however, never get chocolate. I don't have much of a sweet tooth anyway. Not so sure about Franklin.

lotsa licks, Lola

I have never understood why humans insist on keeping dog poison around the house like that. If it's so dangerous, then why buy it???

Is there any left that you might want to send to me? Nommy. Why do they make it such a challenge to get to the foodables? Must have been some sort of weird mentals stimulations exercise.

The theory at our house is, if it's reachable, it's eatable! Glad Linguini enjoyed her little snack with no evil after effects!

Ya, ya, ya...it's always the spotted dog's fault!

I know Linguini wasn't going for the cake. It was the paper towels under the cake she was after! (Oops! Shouldn't have incriminated you - sorry!)

Yup, it was the kittens for sure! At their age, they are crazy for cake!

(Whew! Think they are buying that, L?)

How terrible of those kittens to paint that frosting on Linguini's nose!

You mean that teeeeeny tiny spot of frosting on Linguini's nose? Anydog could have put that there. Or cat. It was a set up. :)
