We're all affected by the recession. With foreclosures on the rise and peoples losing their homes, dog rescue and animal rescue organizations across the country believe us furiends to be the newest victim. Duh! Linguini has taken all this to heart. She's got all the dog food (kibble) she needs and a roof over her head. She now wishes to make a statement.
She decided to give up this:
a deluxe large dog bed
In exchange for that:
a ratty small dog bed
Linguini's take on the recession and a message from her:
I have empathy for the economy and I prefer my small dog bed

Mom thought she'd answer the question you left in your comment about me being 'center'.
The medallion on our rug is Madi's favorite spot. She somehow 99% of the time will position herself smack in the middle.
Linguini and Madi are in the same pose today...which as I told Madi is NOT very lady like.

You might pose for photos while cooped up in the little bed, but I bet that when you sleep you'll end up stretching over to that gray bed next to you. Momma says Pops steals her blanket and space like that when he sleeps too!

Well, while that bed is a bit to small for Linguini, perhaps, Mommy could put a big beach towel or crate pad underneath the tiny bed;then, Linguini, could give up the big couch and be comfy at the same time.

Twink, I know how your little mind works....you have convinced Linguini that she needs to downsize due to the recession while you are eyeing that couch so you can upsize. Us small dogs think alike cause that is exactly what I would do too!
