Ain't Nothing Wrong With A Three Legged Dog

I may have four legs, but only three of those function. An occasional dog vet will ask M to amputate my leg, but she resists. She says that there is no reason to cut off my leg if it's not causing any problems. I so agree with her. Imagine this scrawny three legged teacup chihuahua having to adjust, again!

I would like to keep my fourth leg for balance, thank you very much!

Enough about me. This past weekend I was at a horse show and to my astonishment and pleasure, I saw two three legged dogs. Yup, yup, we rule!

The beige girl on the right is Angel
She's wearing the pink dog harness

Angel is a three legged dog. She's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and she belongs to a dog vet. Let me tell you how she got her name and why her mommy is a vet. Perhaps you've guessed it already. The proud parents of Angel, refused to pick her up and pay the bill when she had to have her leg amputated. Their bad. Angel is . . . an angel and a doll. She's adorable, very active, and incredibly well adjusted and content in her new home.

This pink dog is Angel's sister
She's sporting a pink do to match Angel's pink harness and pink leash
I bet Angel can outrun her!

I tried to catch up to this three legged dog, but I wasn't fast enough.
Maybe I'll catch him at the next horse show, but I though he looked rather cool.

Let me show now something four legged dogs can't do.

Being a three legged dog has another advantage. In my case, I'm the only one of my pack that gets daily massages. M says I need my spine adjusted and massaged constantly because of my bad posture. I love my massages and I love being a technically three legged dog! Cheers to all 3 legged dogs out there!!!

Oh Twink, we don't even think of you being a 3 legger...I guess we just don't notice, even in the movies of you. Your Mom knows best, if the sleepy leg was sick or infected, then it would be better off gone, but really, why would you cut it off now??? Cool pictures of Angel and her sissy...hot pink fur!!! now that is something wild!

I agree with your mom no reason to do the surgery if it is not causing any problems.

I haves to agree with Draco and his mom, I've nevers really noticed or thoughts too much about your bum leg...hmmm, was that politcally correct? Anyway, I thinks you is perfect no matter how many legs you haves or don't haves. I wonders now if you sit weird...hehehehe! My mimi's doxie was attacked by a boxer and da ER vet wanted to take his leg off too. But da next day he was taken to da regular vet and he said "NO WAY, I will NOT amputate his leg". So that was that.
Oh and in SC where we live, it is actually illegal to dye your dogs coat.

Ah Twink it makes my heart so happy to read this. You have a new kitty with babies on the way.
You are so very nice to give her a home...A great big hug...if she wants diva lessons please let me know I'll hop on the red eye.

Love the pink legged dog.

There are actually quite a few greyhound tripods. Many lose a leg due to severe injury or osteosarcoma, so three-legged dogs aren't anything unusual to stare at for us! We think you're perfect just the way you are, Twink!

Butt see, I didn't even think there was something so different about you. I mean you are just a cross over between US and the two leggers. I've always thought that your job was to kind of bridge the gap between the 2 and us 4 leggers.
That is sooooo wonderful of your mom to gave your back a massage every day. She is very special (for a two legger).
YOU are Pawfectly wonderful in my mind. OK?

There's nothing wrong with a three legged dog is right. I think it shows how flexible we are that so many dogs do just great on three legs. I'm not so sure about the pink dog, though. That's a little worrisome.

When I was volunteering at a vet, a dog had to have a rear leg amputated and recovered well. But some months later she had a problem with the front leg on the other side and had surgery on it and I saw her, with my own two eyes, walk across the vet's waiting room on two legs - two legs on the same side!! It was an amazing glimpse into how wonderfully adaptable dogs are. (Her leg recovered and she now goes around on three.)

Hi Twink,

Three legs or four, you are one special girl.

The other night we saw a TWO legged dog on the tellyvision. She lost both back legs from some disease mom doesn't know the name of. But she sure didn't let it slow her down. I think her name was Honey and she could balance on her front legs and get around almost as good as a four legged dog!

Twink, I knew about your leg cause I have read your book ;o) Have you met Yodi? He is a 3 legger too!

I could go around on 3 legs if it got me some more treats and extra love (massage).
Snuggles,
Twix
PS: I gave the extra book to one of the docs at my work who has 2 little girls and they love it!!!!
