Littermates!

As soon as the Great Dane Puppies, Ziggy and Sasha, joined our pack, many of our furiends' pawrents, approached us via email and Facebook, giving us sound advice on raising gentle giants and commenting on the difficulties and potential hazards of raising littermates. Worry not, dear friends.

Photo of the 3 littermates

The "lil' Dane" in the midst is way more attached to the Danes than they are to each other.

These two littermates are inseparable.

When M took the two Great Dane puppies to Santa Barbara, leaving the orange one behind, the lil' one got so depressed that he stopped eating and took to going around the house sighing deeply.
Lil' Pedrito (a rat-cha), the orange blur, has infiltrated the littermates, creating an even stronger bond with Ziggy than his actual sister.

Sasha puts up stoically with her new littermate, Pedrito, the Orange Great Dane.

Our Great Dane Puppies' First Beach Adventure

We took our Ziggy (merloquin) and our Sasha (black), our almost 4-month old Great Dane Puppies to the beach in Santa Barbara this past weekend. Even though the water scared them a bit, they took full advantage of the sandy shore.

 The sandcrab.

 Catch me if you can.

 A typical littermate moment.

 Taking a breather.

 Covered in sand.

Going to China.

At the end of the day, the puppies had made lots of human and furry friends. They were totally exhausted and couldn't wait to get back to their motel.
They also got to go to a horse show and meet lots of horses.

About yesterday's post
It was Sasha and Bob(-cat) on the pool table. Shhh, don't tell M's son. It's his table.

Duckling Update (With My Apologies)

Some furiends, like the famous and loveable blog readers Jed and Abby have asked for a duckling update. So sorry! Life at our home is rather hectic since the Great Dane puppies arrived. The duckling story had a much happier ending than we could have ever imagined. I'm going to redirect you to their initial home, their "birthplace", Creekhiker's blog.

In sum: All ducklings and their mama are thriving. They are nearly 2 months old and almost full fledglings. They are wild enough to rehabilitate. They've already survived a few days in their new surroundings. Whatever happens next . . . it's up to Mother Nature.

Vaya Con Dios, Duck Family! Thank you for letting us take care of you and change your dirty stinky water every day. We are all too happy with the outcome. It was all worth it!

The Collar Tree

We are usually given our baths on weekends. The cats get groomed indoors. They get their coats "furminated" and their claws trimmed (to our great relief!). In the summertime, we the dogs, are groomed outdoors. We get brushed and bathed. We also get manis and pedis (ugh).

Our clean collars are left to dry on the designated "Collar Tree"

See how many you can count.

Once Upon A Time

A Story about a real Great Dane and a Great Dane Wanna-Be

Once Upon a Time . . .
Ziggy, the real Great Dane, got a hold of a dog toy, the famous Mr. Chicken.
Ziggy fell in love with Mr. Chicken and made him squeak-a-lot.

Pedro, the tiny orange Great Dane Wanna-Be loved Mr. Chicken too, so he waited for a chance to play with him too.

 And waited . . .

And finally, Ziggy took a tiny break from chewing Mr. Chicken.

RUH-ROH!!!

This Real Great Dane is super sweet, but not as smart. Besides, he's only a puppy!

Ziggy eventually tried to get Mr. Chicken back, but the tiny orange Pedrito taunted him with it. Neh, nah, nah, nah...

And some more taunting . . . Hey, nah, neh, nah . . .Vaya Con Dios

Ziggy eventually got Mr. Chicken back and then Pedro and then Ziggy and then Pedro and then Ziggy and ... I think you get the picture!

Sasha At the Emergency Vet's Lobby

When Ziggy, Sasha's bro, was hospitalized at midnight last Friday, after getting stung by a bee . . . Sasha waited patiently for him.

"Huh, what? Ziggy, is that you? Are you ok?"

"I'm ready to go home, siss!"
