Mat Pilates Is For Great Dane Puppies Too

 

Okay, maybe not so much. Gentle Giants do not need as much exercise as we lil' dogs do. They mostly eat (mucho), drink, and sh... a-lot. Oh, they also hiccup all the time.

Littermates!

As soon as the Great Dane Puppies, Ziggy and Sasha, joined our pack, many of our furiends' pawrents, approached us via email and Facebook, giving us sound advice on raising gentle giants and commenting on the difficulties and potential hazards of raising littermates. Worry not, dear friends.

The "lil' Dane" in the midst is way more attached to the Danes than they are to each other.

These two littermates are inseparable.

When M took the two Great Dane puppies to Santa Barbara, leaving the orange one behind, the lil' one got so depressed that he stopped eating and took to going around the house sighing deeply. 

Lil' Pedrito (a rat-cha), the orange blur, has infiltrated the littermates, creating an even stronger bond with Ziggy than his actual sister.

Our Great Dane Puppies' First Beach Adventure

We took our Ziggy (merloquin) and our Sasha (black), our almost 4-month old Great Dane Puppies to the beach in Santa Barbara this past weekend. Even though the water scared them a bit, they took full advantage of the sandy shore.

At the end of the day, the puppies had made lots of human and furry friends. They were totally exhausted and couldn't wait to get back to their motel.

They also got to go to a horse show and meet lots of horses.

Ziggy's First Vet VisitS

Yesterday, at 3 PM, Sasha and Ziggy, our two Great Dane puppies, went to the vet and got their last set of puppy shots. They were exemplary and I will share photos of the sibs waiting to see the doctor. They thoroughly enjoyed their visit, did not feel any discomfort from the shots, got lots of TLC and even lots of treats! Overall, they made our pack proud!

It was close to midnight. M was holding me while admiring her sleeping babies nearby when she squealed and jumped up so fast, I was afraid she'd drop me. I looked and was shocked myself. Ziggy's face had doubled! Aha! 

Ziggy had an allergic reaction

Because Ziggy had just had his shots, M decided to take him straight to the emergency hospital. She took Sasha too with her, just so that she could observe her. The visit was brief and Ziggy was treated with a simple dose of antihistamine. He was apparently and most likely stung by a bee.

The swelling is almost gone today, but M and the danes sure could use some sleep!

M was taking care of the duck pond.

Ziggy, the three-month-old Great Dane puppy, was helping out that day. He took a big step over the ditch and . . . 

 THUD! In he went!

Poor baby got a boo boo. . .

He was dazed for a few minutes, but then he forgot all about his little adventure!

Wordless Wednesday on Thursday

Our feed is down, Blogger wouldn't let me upload any photos yesterday . . . I feel like I'm being sabotaged. I'm going to try to upload yesterday's photo as a test. My apologies to all my friends and furiends. It's really hard to deal with technical difficulties and all my sibs, including the new Great Dane pups that are so obviously on steroids!

Double or Nothing

I have been unable to post this weekend because, we, the animals at my home, doubled! M has been working overtime to accommodate the new family of 12. I'll share photos and details with you asap. Meanwhile, for those of you who are following the Great Dane Puppies' news, they are both doing great. They are extremely gentle, especially with tiny me, and they are good listeners (and talkers). Linguini is also recovering so fast that she's jumping the fence, a-gain.

Great Dane Puppies | Pictures | Note From Twinkie

Dearest furiends and friends,

Life at the Twinkersons has been terribly hectic since the gentle giants arrived. Everything is A-okay. I, the tiny chihuahua, am still in control. I may weight only 4lbs and have only 3 good legs, but I mean business and the Great Dane Puppies have been "informed".

You can see me in action here, supervising the pack.

My sister Linguini, the senior spotted dog, is doing well. She gets along with the Great Dane puppies although she hasn't really warmed up to them. She was never one to engage with other dogs. She loves humans more. The most important thing is that she is as healthy as any dog her age and size can be.
My other sister, Frankie, the brindle chiweenie, is doing really well too. She's appreciating the fact that our devilish chihuahua puppy bro, Pedrito, is busy with the danes. She gets along with everyone and enjoys the increased one on one time M is putting in all of us these days (she wants us all to feel loved and not to worry about being dethroned by the new puppies).
My brother Pedro, the incredibly naughty 9 month old chihuahua puppy is having the time of his life. He is in love with both Danes and shows it. He has become adorable and obedient overnight. He is in charge of the Great Dane puppies. He watches over them, leads them around the yard, drags his toys in front of them to get them to engage . . . M tells everyone about his change with teary eyes! As for me, I've got tears of joy in mine. He's finally left me alone! The pressure's off thanks to our new pack members.

The seven cats have their own issues to worry about and the presence of the Great Dane puppies hasn't made a big difference in their lives. The cats are mostly indifferent to the gentle oversized pups.

M is working overtime doing what she always did, but the addition of the puppies and the fact that she's back in school have added a bit of stress to her life. It's okay though because whenever she gets any breaks, she visits with us and all her trouble disappear. We make enormous doggy piles that always make her smile (that is when Sasha is not eating M's hair).

That's pretty much it as far as our news goes, but I also wanted to tell you about a new friend we made through our blog. Her name is Bek. She'll tell you the rest . . .

I’m working on a short film that I thought you and your extended pup pack might be interested in.  The film, SICK AS A DOG follows Maggie, Betty, and Ginseng, three canine companions that have been forced to confront the ill effects of chronic disease, age-related illness, and poor diet.  Throughout the film, the dog’s humans get support from some of the Bay-Area’s top acupuncturists, dermatologists, water rehabilitation therapists, and other specialists in an attempt to help keep the dogs happy and healthy.

 

I recently launched a “Kickstarter” campaign to cover the final costs of producing the film so we can get it out the door ASAP.  I have only a few days left to reach my funding goal (until June 13th) and I am already 60% of the way there. There are some great perks for donating, including copies of the DVD and SICK AS A DOG keepsakes.

Great Dane Puppies And Us

After yesterday's shocking unveiling, I am under the obligation to at least answer your questions. 

Are we adopting or fostering?

Full on and permanent ADOPTION! These babies aren't going anywhere. They've already got a fabulous forever home, ours, and they ain't going nowhere. 

Our M doesn't care about flowers much, but she does love d-o-g-s. These Great Dane puppies were a pressie to our M. They are unfortunately NOT rescues, but once we met them, there was no returning them.

How are we all taking it?

Let me break it down for you...

Here's your answer. She watches over them like the world's best pup-sitter!

The cats are not too worried. The Great Dane puppies' disposition is so balanced and calm, that even the cats instantly tolerated them nicely.

There are always exceptions.

Pedro, the chihuahua puppy, is convinced he's a Great Dane. Ever since he switched breeds (he used to be a Rhodesian Ridgeback), his disposition has changed completely. He's as sweet natured as his new siblings. We cannot believe the positive overnight change on Pedrito, the ex devilish pup!

M is in heaven. Somebody tell her she won't be able to do this for much longer, please!

We, the smaller dogs,  feel the need to stick together at times, but, other than that, we're all doing well, considering our full home. 

FYI, these great dane puppies are going to live the life! Our yard is a full acre.

They are fitting in beautifully and haven't complained once since they arrived.

The best news according to M:

Their poo is VISIBLE.
